Tiondeboden i Ingatorp

Tiondeboden i Ingatorp is at the same time the second oldest wooden building in Sweden and is only surpassed by the approximately ten years older Granhults Kyrka. The barn, in contrast to the church and all other similarly old wooden structures in Sweden, is the one that has hardly changed in the course of its existence and is still almost completely in its original medieval condition.

The tithe barn of Ingatorp

Although the medieval barn is considered a secular building, because it was not directly involved in the religious worship, it still had a close connection with the church. As a tithe barn, it was used to store the so-called "tithing" – the customary levy in the Middle Ages, in which the peasants paid a tenth of their income as a tax. In the case of Ingatorp, the charge served primarily to support the village pastor and the church, and to provide for the poor and the sick.

Älvdalen (Elfdalian: Övdaln or Tjyörtjbynn; literally "the river valley") is a locality and the seat of Älvdalen Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 1, inhabitants in [1]

The parish is widely known for being the place of manufacturing, in , of the 4-meter granite vase (called Älvdalen Vase), installed in the Summer Garden in Saint Petersburg (a gift from Charles XIV John of Sweden to Nicholas I of Russia).

Nearby is the Hykjebergets Nature Reserve, inaugurated by Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia in [2]

The indigenous language of Älvdalen is Elfdalian. Although it contains many innovations[3] it still preserves various Old Norse traits that have ceased to exist in most other North Germanic languages.[4][5] The main spoken language in modern times is a Dalecarlian dialect of Swedish, which also is the dominant language in the local administration.

Tiondebod (eller kyrkohärbärge) (latingranarium) var en i äldre tider använd beteckning på ett förvaringsrum för den del av tiondet, som inte tillföll prästen. Tiondeboden får dock inte förväxlas med tiondelada.

Allmänt

Tiondebodens underhåll blev tidigt en kommunal angelägenhet. I Byggningabalken av års lag stadgades: "Der tiondebod nödig är, bygge den alle de i socknen, eller staden, som kronotionde utföra".

Enligt ett mandat av skulle i varje kyrkohärbärge säd förbli liggande för utsädeshjälp åt nödställda jordbrukare, en upprinnelse till de senare inrättade "kornhusen" (spannmålsbodar) och sockenmagasinen.
